Cargo responsibly across the Gulf of Pohjanlahti

Finnlines' new and innovative hybrid ships utilize several different energy-saving technologies, and with this, cargo also moves across the Gulf of Pohjanlahti in a more responsible and ecological way.

CHS Group company Scanlink Oy Ltd, which specializes in road freight, carries several weekly shipments from Finland to Sweden and Norway and to the continental Europe, so by using the new ships we are able to offer our customers transportations that has less impact on the environment.

The first of Finnlines’ two freight-passenger Superstar vessels (Ropax) was named in Naantali on September 13, 2023. Patrik Heikkonen, head of CHS Group's road freight unit and Toni Ruusumo,Scanlink's transport coordinator, visited the ship's opening ceremony.

The new ships can accommodate around 200 cars and 300 trucks per trip. The Superstar ropax ship can carry up to 40% more cargo than previous ships and at the same time also 1,100 passengers. The Ropax ship operates between Naantali and Kapellskär.

Environmental and responsibility aspects are important to us and our customer companies

For this reason, it is great that the ships use shore electricity while in port, which enables emission-free port visits. The hybrid solution also reduces fuel consumption.

Shipping is essential for Finland's foreign trade. About 90% of exports and 80% of imports are carried by sea.

Scanlink is a long-term partner with Finnlines and we congratulate the company on the new ecological ships. It is a pleasure to continue the cooperation in the future as well.
